Everything about nutrition, myths and what is really important for mother and baby.
Many new mothers wonder if they need to follow a strict diet while breastfeeding. The good news? Your body is incredibly capable of producing high-quality breast milk, even if your diet isn’t perfect. However, a few key nutrients do matter.
What’s truly important?
Energy and hydration: Eat enough and drink when thirsty. Producing milk requires about 500 extra calories per day.
Key nutrients: Aim for a varied diet rich in calcium, iron, omega-3s, and vitamin B12—especially if you’re vegetarian or vegan.
Myths: You don’t need to drink extra milk to make milk, and “gassy” foods like broccoli don’t cause colic in your baby.
Allergies: Occasionally, babies react to allergens in mom’s diet, such as cow’s milk protein. If you suspect this, consult a lactation consultant or doctor.
